What an official tourism site is good for

Tourism boards are government or government-funded bodies. Their sites are good for inspiration, regional overviews, events calendars, itineraries, maps and the country's own list of approved visitor centres and guides.

What it is not

They are marketing, so they are not neutral: expect no honest warnings about overcrowding, scams or poor value. They rarely book anything for you, and they don't carry current visa, entry or safety rules. For those, check your government's travel advice and the country's immigration authority.
