Travel tips

  1. Follow park regulations and wardens’ advice, and take extra care after dark. GOV.UK says dangerous animals can roam open highways, and stray wildlife and livestock make driving outside urban areas dangerous, particularly at night.
  2. Stay out of rivers and lakes. GOV.UK says you could be attacked by wild animals and risk catching water-borne diseases.
  3. Camp only in designated campsites and sleep inside your tent or vehicle. The Botswana Tourism Organisation says park campsites are usually not fenced.
  4. On self-drive trips, carry at least 20 litres of water per person, and 50 to 100 litres for desert destinations. The same page advises this, and GOV.UK says to travel in convoy or with a satellite phone in very remote areas.
