Before you go
- Cyprus is in the EU but not in Schengen. The EUโs EES site says the Entry/Exit System does not apply there and passports are still stamped manually.
- Visit Cyprus says all travellers need a passport, but EU, Icelandic, Liechtenstein, Norwegian and Swiss citizens may use a national ID card with a photo.
- If you are a British citizen, GOV.UK says your passport must be less than 10 years old on arrival and valid for 3 months after you leave, and that you can stay without a visa for up to 90 days.
- Arrive through Larnaca or Paphos airport or a Republic of Cyprus port. The Republicโs Ministry of Foreign Affairs says entry through the north is illegal, and GOV.UK says you could be fined or refused entry.

Travel tips
- Swim only on approved beaches and follow warning signs, as GOV.UK advises, because there can be strong waves and currents.
- Drive on the left and drive defensively. GOV.UK says driving standards are poor and there is an increased risk of road deaths compared to the UK.
- Check your car hire insurance before crossing to the north. GOV.UK says cars hired in the Republic often have no cover there, and you wonโt be let through without the right documents.
- Buy your own drinks and keep sight of them, as GOV.UK warns that drink spiking is a risk.
