Travel tips

  1. Read GOV.UKโ€™s regional risks before planning trips to the south or west, especially near the Libyan and Algerian borders.
  2. Plan Sahara trips for autumn. The Office National du Tourisme Tunisien calls autumn the preferred season for exploring the Tunisian Sahara, and its weather page says summer can bring peaks above 40ยฐ in the far south.
  3. Carry a copy of your passport photo page. GOV.UK says foreign nationals must carry ID and security officials may ask for it at any time.
  4. Avoid driving at night outside towns, and ask local drivers where the petrol stations are before long drives in remote areas. GOV.UK cites unlit roads, vehicles without lights and livestock.
  5. Leave your drone at home unless you have authorisation. GOV.UK says it is illegal to bring one into Tunisia without it, and detected drones are confiscated until you leave.
