Before you go
- GOV.UK says British citizens can visit without a visa for 30 days, and their passport must expire more than 3 months after they arrive. Extensions are handled by the Immigration Department’s visitor’s permit page.
- GOV.UK says Belize’s authorities recommend completing the digital immigration and customs form before you travel.
- TravelHealthPro lists no malaria risk in most of Belize but has reported local cases in Cayo District. It lists dengue and chikungunya, spread by mosquitoes that bite mainly in the daytime.

- Book snorkelling and diving only with registered and licensed operators, and check the local forecast first. GOV.UK says injuries and deaths have come mainly from inadequate safety precautions and severe weather.
- Follow the National Meteorological Service of Belize from June to November. GOV.UK gives 1 June to 30 November as the hurricane season, and the Service says most of the year’s rain falls from June to November.
- Take only registered taxis with green licence plates, and ask the fare before you get in. GOV.UK says to expect to pay in cash.
- Hire a qualified guide for trips off the beaten track. GOV.UK lists this among precautions for tourists.
