Travel tips

  1. Check Yasur’s alert level before visiting Tanna. GOV.UK says alert levels can change unexpectedly and you may not be able to reach an island.
  2. Carry vatu in cash and ask before using a beach or track outside your resort. The Vanuatu Tourism Office says many beaches are on customary land and communities charge an entry fee.
  3. Use licensed dive and water sports operators and get a safety briefing first. GOV.UK says both of Vanuatu’s recompression chambers are in Port Vila.
  4. Keep beachwear for beaches and hotels, and ask before photographing anyone. GOV.UK says local customs are strictly observed.
  5. If you travel between November and April, watch the Vanuatu Meteorology and Geo-hazards Department for cyclone information. It gives these months as the cyclone season.
