Travel tips
- Visit Dubrovnik and Split early in the morning or in the evening, when cruise passengers have left.
- Visit the coast in May, June or September for warm sea and fewer crowds than July and August.
- Swimming shoes help on rocky and pebble beaches, which are more common than sand.
- Many restaurants and smaller guesthouses still prefer cash; carry some euros.
- Buses are often faster than trains along the coast.
