  • Every tourist must hold health and accident insurance covering the whole stay, with cover of at least 30,000 GEL, the Georgian National Tourism Administration says. You may be asked for the policy at check-in or on arrival.

Travel tips

  1. Book taxis through an app rather than flagging them in the street, and check the seatbelts work, as GOV.UK advises.
  2. Avoid demonstrations and large gatherings, and check local media. GOV.UK says tensions can escalate without warning.
  3. Drive carefully outside cities, especially at night. GOV.UK says roads are often badly lit, stray livestock is a hazard and landslides are common.
  4. Skip off-piste skiing, or go with a guide. GOV.UK says it is very dangerous and accurate avalanche information is hard to get.
